Creative Construction: Crafty Drawer Repair

Ahh, the joys of home ownership have no end. I am constantly going through my list of what is:

Broken

And in need of repair. Some stuff you learn to live with because it’s not worth stressing over, but some stuff is like really?!?! Give me a break! Just kidding. Crop failure on that. I need a pair of hands to help with these repairs.

For example, I have a dummy drawer by the sink and the drawer face fell off. Then I have two true functional drawers whose faces also fell off. We’ve been living with 3 faceless drawers for quite some time and have become accustomed to not using them. We’ve gotten used to looking at the gaps everytime we take laps in the kitchen.

The other day, I thought:

Enough, Kids Grab The Crafty Stuff

My boys were tasked with a true:

Home School Assignment

Learning through helping with home repairs. Crafty style, of course. The assignment was to:

Patch The Drawers Using Cardboard & Creativity

For this assignment the base materials included:

  • Cardboard
  • Measuring Tape
  • Box Cutter & Scissors
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Velcro

The Builder Bros, Creative Caleb & ElecTrick Elijah, got in the zone with this assignment.  It was a great opportunity for me to work with my first grader on the basics of measuring.

This mama got in on the action, too! I had so much fun creating my own design.

I used silk flowers and scripture cards to decorate my creative drawer face.

Sure, the drawers aren’t technically fixed, but what was once an eye sore is now adored!

When the flip it perspective is applied – “cons” become invitations for:

Creative CONstruction

The end results are soo good that I no longer want a carpenter to do true repairs!

If you have a spot or zone in your home that you would label as “ugh” – consider leaning into creative construction.

You never know if it wood work! 🙂
