Stop Snarling About My Shirley Temple

Oh, come on! Have a little…

Fun

is what I’ve been told if I decline to…

drink an alcoholic beverage. I’ve actually had a man laugh at me and poke fun saying something like – “What are you a little kid?” because I was slurping on my:

Virgin Shirley Temple

Was he not realizing his unwelcomed remark, was him acting like an insecure teen?

If I would’ve said – “What are you an addict?” – I’d be wrong….

I chose to let his comment slide and not go back and forth with non-sense.

It’s funny how those who like to drink don’t want to be judged, but will be quick to openly judge someone who is not drinking. I’m not judging anyone’s choice to drink.

For me, I have gone about 2 years without sipping on any alcohol. I don’t want to break the streak. At least, not right now. Perhaps, down the line I will get into wine tasting for the art of it – not pursuing an altered state.

Furthermore, it is presumptuous to assume someone that does not drink or do drugs is doing so because they are uptight or to be a buzz kill. Perhaps, they have personal reasons such as growing up in an alcoholic home, a medical condition, or a case of none ya business! What if someone not drinking or doing drugs is the best way for them to have fun in the long run!?!

Also, I’m not switching up on my personal decision out of straight up defiance and valuing my choice. I don’t like when people try to make me feel bad, like I’m a buzz kill or not having fun.

I celebrate standing alone! So should you!

I love to do it boldly!

I’m naturally fun. I’m energetic, playful, and enjoyable. I value being of a sober mind. Yall, I will get on the dance floor and get on a mic in front of people without liquid courage. I’ve actually been asked if I drink because of how goofy I naturally am – bahahahahahaha!

My courage comes from the well that never runs dry – Jesus Christ!

“But whoever drinks the water I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life”. John 4: 14

If you don’t drink, don’t allow anyone to make you feel bad. Don’t break down and order one just to fit in. Forget that. Let them “kick rocks” and slurp on whatever they have poured over ice.

With a straight face, I love ordering my:

Shirley Temple

and requesting extra cherries! I have eaten a meal at a bar by my own self and ordered it. & got the refill!

That persistent nudge to “Have fun” is often just a nudge toward foolishness. Be watchful.

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world” – 1 Peter 5: 8-9

If you do drink and are around others who do not partake. Do not try to make them feel bad with your side comments. You do you. Allow them to do them.

Can you have fun without needing something outside of yourself to prop you up?

Asking out of curiosity, not judgement.
