What’s The Last Thing That Excited You?

This is a:

cause like excited me how…?

Daily writing prompt
Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.

Last week, I was really excited at the thought of seeing someone. But I’ve decided to not put myself on an emotional rollercoaster, so hopped off that ride.

I’m going to go with sharing a performing arts endeavor that excited me in a major way!

I’m going to give it to my audition for a role in a play.

I’m giving it to this one because it was very “random”. A while back, I fell for one of those FB “scams” that was promising to get you cast in roles for a price. I ended up subscribing to this “agency” and in doing so – I started applying to a bunch of acting opportunities. They were located all over the United States, yet I kept throwing my hat in the ring.

Know that I’ve never been paid to act and don’t truly have theatre experience.

Well, after applying to all of these opportunities I moved on with life.

This past April – my phone rang from an unrecognizable number. I almost didn’t answer cause…well…you know how it is! I answered to a woman inquiring about the status of my past due audition tape. I didn’t even know what it was for – so I asked her. She told me:

Yall, I aint ever heard of Newsies or seen it bahahahaha I have never auditioned to be in a musical. I don’t even classify myself as someone who can sang although I stay sangin’ like I’m Mariah Carey.

My audition tape was past due and they needed me to send in a 1 min tape of me singing a song.

I was so excited to throw my hat in the ring. I loved the challenge and the pressure.

I got the call late on a April 7, 2025 and rushed to get something recorded and submitted by the morning of April 8th.

I was up watching videos of the Newsies songs, watching other singers perform the songs, picking my song, and then practicing – over and over and over. I didn’t have the lyrics memorized so I had to get creative and have my computer with the lyrics on screen beneath the camera I was using to record.

All of the drama around this opportunity made me feel so alive. I didn’t even care if I got the role – I just was excited to be stretched.

The song I chose was “Watch What Happens“! It was sooo hard! I don’t know how those that perform this are able to nail it – they are so skilled, trained, and definitely have practiced. I really connected with this song because it made me think of my actual real life – I was pulling from a very real and deep place.

I was up by myself – here at my dwelling spot – The Billionaire Bubble. Singing and recording over and over over – until probably 5am. A true all nighter.

I submitted this audition tape!

I didn’t get the role, but I sure was rollin’ with laughter as I worked to audition. bahahaha I was praying that God would change the casting team’s ears – so they would accept my singing.

It felt so good to feel alive!!! I felt stretched in many ways!

Since then I’ve continued to create in my own world – but the whirlwind of this audition has not been topped.

What’s the last thing that has excited you?
