My knuckles are sore from punching and my shins are tender from kicking so much. Nevertheless, I’ve:
Committed
to boxing Monday- Saturday.
Soo…what to do when in pain and feeling like each jab, cross, and hook will hurt?
Show up anyway.
My flesh doesn’t run the show.

I just have to get the gym and be with the other fighters and our coach(es).
Plus I can’t lose momentum as this pain is actually strengthening my knuckles and shins.
Every time I pop blood vessels I am conditioning my body to become calloused to impact. Seasoned fighters have shared with me how they punch and kick through the pain. As a result, their bodies and mentality are tougher than what they are hitting.
When you are in excruciating pain, beyond tired, and wanting to quit. Remember this:
Others are feeling discomfort too and embracing the suck on their own come up journey!
Endure the manure!
These last few days I haven’t thrown or kicked as hard – but the discipline and muscle memory continues to deepen.
In class there is often a time to do push ups. Some fighters can do them on their knuckles, diamond press, or “old school” standard style. I’m doing “girl push ups” and often the last to finish. Some times those who finished first have to get more reps in cause they are waiting on me. Character development? Resilience building? Patience purpose? ![]()
When my coach told me good job and called out how I always finish my set – that meant a lot.
You may not be the fastest. You may not be the strongest.
Nevertheless – you can make it your business to be as disciplined as you can with what you have and where you are.
Just. Show. Up.
Slay the day even if you’re inwardly battling may weather. ![]()
