Reclaiming Our Time: Finding Balance In A Digital World

I’m constantly at war with:

Here at the Billionaire Bubble, the world – changer kings I am raising are given 2 hours of free tech time.*

During this time, they can enter the Virtual Reality world and play on their tablets. This does not have to be educational, but it must be appropriate.

These defined tech hours did not go over well when it was implemented as they were used to no true time constraint. I would just yell out:

… and the VR headsets, tablets, phone, and tv – needed to be turned off/put away for a while.

Lego phones created by King Caleb in his younger years.

Why am I this way with tech? Because it’s a problem when left unchecked.

How are we spending excessive time exploring virtual worlds when we haven’t explored the:

If given a blank map can you identify all the countries on planet Earth? Psh, I can’t.

I am sometimes concerned that the term “friend” is being used to loosley – especially when giving that label to those we meet on the internet. Deep bonds are forged beyond the screens and chat rooms.

Connecting with people online and learning on the internet is great, but it’s not a substitute for in person connection and hands on experience. You can have hundreds of “friends” online and still be lonely. You can know all the facts and still be foolish.

Although, I’m talking about my kids. I am aware that I need tech breaks too.

Let’s give our imagination a call!

I’ve noticed that my daughter, Queen Glory, will sometimes grab my face away from my phone to get my attention or she will repeatedly say:

At first, I’m like “I love you too Queen”…but then it started to hit me. I think she is actually saying:

Just dang. I don’t feel guilt about this, but I am aware.

Trust – there are times where she is doing her tech thing and pushes me away. We all have done this, at least over here at the Billionaire Bubble.

If we’re not careful tech can rob us of meaningful connection with loved ones we share space with.

The time is fleeting! We don’t know how long we have on Earth to do life with those around us.

It would be unfortunate for my children to leave the Billionaire Bubble without us even knowing each other.

Sometimes during our tech breaks we will go old school and pull out some:

We really learn a lot about each other during these competitive times!

Tomorrow, January 18th, 2025 is:

There really is a day for everything! I’m leaning into this day by turning my phone off at home. I will probably keep my music playing on my laptop – but no scrolling or content consumption. I’m sure my brain will appreciate the break.

Wearing the most advanced tech free phone everrrrr! Digital Detox!

I’m a little nervous to cut the tech out , but excited to really be able to create however I see fit. & also to hang out with my kids. Perhaps we’ll get out in nature, organize & declutter, read, and make some fun art!

Checkout the No Phone At Home website for more tips and ideas.

If you decide to join this challenge let me know in the comments! Consider sharing your non-tech activities.

Happy unplugging,

* On Fridays, the kids get unlimited tech until midnight – with a tech break callout here and there.
